t was a lovely evening and I could feel the breeze blowing in my face.’’Come on’’ I said to my brown
Labrador PingPong.’’Let’s go climb on the rocks’’. I scurried down the beach to the red rocks ahead of
me.Once I was high up on the rocks Ping Pong started barking. I looked out at the pale blue sea and
saw a ripple growing larger and larger on the surface. Suddenly a red tail broke through the waves.’’What is
that ? I must tell ZhongMin’’. We ran down the dusty lane past the Chinese medicine shop where my dad
worked and into the back porch.’’Night PingPong’’ I whispered ‘’roof roof ‘’replied PingPong.
Next morning I got out of bed and explained to ZhongMin what had happened down the beach and he
agreed to come down with me.Then mum came home from shopping and told us to finish our homework.
That night I crept out of bed and whispered to ZhongMin ’’Get up, it’s midnight and we have to go to the
beach’’. ‘’ Ok ‘’ yawned ZhongMin. So we both put on our dressing gowns and ran down the beach.’’This
is where I saw him last time ‘’ I said. ‘’ I don’t see anything ‘’ he replied. ‘’ You just have to be patient’’.
And so we were.
Just as dawn was breaking I saw a red tail crash through the waves. ‘’Wake up ZhongMin’’ I cried. I scurried
down the rocks to the sandy shores. ’’ It’s coming closer and closer, what do you think it is?’’ “It’s probably
a sea dragon” said ZhongMin “which is lucky because they are vegetarian. Try stroking it.’’ I held out my
hand the same way I would approach a dog. The sea dragon’s head crashed through the waves. It had bright
black eyes that shone like stars. “You’re beautiful’!” I exclaimed as I rubbed my hand along her head. She
purred like a cat .’’Where do you live?’’ I asked. “She dived under the water and returned with a brown
map. “Thanks” I replied “but we must go. Bye!’’, and with that she dived under the water.
When we got home it was time for school. After school we came home early to look at the map. It took us
hours to understand the riddle of the map but by bedtime we felt that we knew it off by heart. ‘’ Bedtime’’
shouted mum. ‘’Alright’’ we replied as we ran off to bed.
The next morning I ran into the study but the map was not there. I saw dad packing the map into his bag.
‘’No! ‘’ I yelled but it was too late. He was already out of the door. “This is a catastrophe!” I cried. “Dad is a
Chinese medicine doctor and his workers collect rare dragon bones. They will hunt for the sea dragon.” I
ran to tell ZhongMin what had happened. “We must tell the sea dragon’’ he exclaimed. ‘’Yes we will go
down the beach tonight!’’ I replied.
That evening we jumped into our beds and pretended to be asleep. At ten o’clock we slipped out of the
window and ran to the beat of the riddle in our heads.
“Go down the water shoot and find the pirate’s loot.
Inside you’ll find a boot then place it on your foot.
It will lead you without delay to the dragon’s hideaway.”
We arrived at the sea dragon’s cave and crept inside. “Hello is anyone home?” we asked. “Oh, hello. Nice
to see you again” said the sea dragon. “My map must be trustworthy because it led you to the right place.”
“About the map” I said. “My dad has taken it. ’’ “What!” exclaimed the sea dragon? “You mean the
Chinese medicine doctor ?”. “Yes, and his workers collect dragon bones. They will be coming to capture
you any moment’’ we replied. “We must inform the queen straight away’’ said the sea dragon. “The
queen ? ’’ we asked. “No time to explain, we must be on our way!”.
They all rushed along the ocean floor until they came to the queen’s palace. “Wow, it’s huge!” exclaimed
ZhongMin. “It would have to be, for such a big creature” I acknowledged. We knocked on the queen’s
door. “We have some urgent news for the queen” we shouted. “Yes, come in” replied the queen. “What is
it?” “My dad’ stole the map to your hideaway and his workers are coming to get your bones for Chinese
