ne Saturday afternoon, the Pearl River Delta basked in the summer sunshine. Two little
children- Izzy and Matthew were happily playing tag alongside the riverbank.
They played happily until a raucous sound caught their attention! It was the rattling splashes of garbage
falling into the amazing river. “Who’s been doing such a thing to this wonderful place?” Izzy wondered,
worried with fright tingling up her spine. Matthew seemed to have read her mind and pointed to a boy with
sandy hair standing right beside the Pearl River Delta. He was holding a handful of scrunched up
newspapers and dirty old tin cans.
“Joe!” Matthew and Izzy shouted together.
The boy standing next to the river slowly turned around. “Huh?” Joe asked.
“No, Joe.” Izzy said, looking at the Pearl River Delta, concerned about the river.
“No what?” Asked Joe.
“Look, Joe, Pearl River Delta used to have shiny glittering water with merry creatures gliding through the
little waves, and everyone would sit on a little sailboat, sail through the water. But now no one dares to step
inside all the rubbish and mud, all the dirt… it looks like a heap of stinky old cow dung!”
“Why should I care?” Joe said.
“Because you have to.” Izzy said. “Now Joe, I’ll tell you a story about the Pearl River Delta…
On a nice and sunny day, a pink dolphin called Lindy swam to the surface of the Pearl River Delta. She was
tired and wanted a nice long rest.
Abruptly, a drumming sound roared from the shore. Lindy opened her eyes and stared at a big, yellow
vehicle that was carrying something that looked like a ginormous garbage bin, then she saw a dump truck
driver looking at her. Lindy then knew that the big yellow vehicle she had looking at was nothing but a
dump truck! She was scared and tried to swim away, but she couldn’t! It was at this moment she noticed
that her fin and tail was trapped in a plastic bag! She tried her best to escape but for her it was impossible.
The scared dolphin felt a hand touch her pink fin. She looked up and saw the truck driver. Although she
was scared, she could see that from the truck driver’s eyes, he was willing to help.
‘Let me.’ the driver silently told Lindy.
The dolphin nodded.
The driver gently freed the scared dolphin and then turned away, walking to the truck.
Then he turned back to the dolphin, going to check if she was ok, but to his surprise, Lindy wasn’t there
anymore, but instead standing right in front of him was a little girl, with blonde hair and strips of pink
highlights in her hair. She was wearing a bright pink dress with bright pink high heel shoes and a pink
handbag.
‘You freed me.’ said the girl who turned out to be Lindy. ‘You saved my life.’
The driver was so confused and shocked that he almost fainted.
‘I was put on a curse because I was throwing rubbish into the river, and got turned into a dolphin. They
made me feel like the animals in the water… I learnt my lesson!’ Lindy smiled.
‘This is the home of the sea creatures. They live here. Humans have no right to dump things here. We are
destroying their home, and some of the rubbish that we dump here falls into the water! Lets say- plastic
bags. They swim right into plastic bags, thinking it is food. They get caught and tangled, and they can’t get
