up. The passengers are waiting. Remember to steer the gondola patiently as there are babies on board. You
have to make the gondola feel like a cradle. Remember to concentrate, keep going and never look back.”
At the beginning, Orpheus could keep himself calm and steer gently. Soon he realized there was a long way
to go and he felt dizzy. He started getting impatient and tried to paddle faster hoping to finish the ride as
soon as possible.
Worse still, Orpheus heard a lot of noises behind. Sometimes it sounded like people calling at him and the
other times it sounded like woman’s sobbing sound. But Orpheus kept telling himself, “My heart is at
peace!” He ignored all the noises and steered gently. Finally he completed the gondola ride and felt relieved.
But the gondola seemed to weigh heavy even though the passengers had left.
He looked back and saw Eurydice sitting in the gondola behind. Eurydice blushed when seeing Orpheus.
Orpheus heard the flutter of her heartbeat and he knew that Eurydice was not a shade any more. She had
flesh and was warm. They embraced each other and became speechless with joy. “We will never be parted
again,” said Orpheus. Eurydice nodded and replied, “Let’s begin our new life in The Pearl River Delta.”
The couple set up Michelin-starred restaurants in the Pearl River Delta. The signature dishes were dim-
sum and snake soup. Why snake soup? Eurydice was bitten to death by a poisonous snake, of course she
liked to eat snakes.
