drew a tiger to chase him. The conjured-up tiger kept on chasing him, and also terrorised the other
common folk. To avoid the tiger, he ran to the Temple of Guan Yu, where the tiger was stopped. Wen-
Zhu pleaded with the god, and Guan Yu pitied him, and said to him in a booming voice, “Wen-Zhu, you
have a good heart, so I will help you. I will grant you another magic paintbrush. It works the same as the
magic paintbrush stolen by your father. He is now wreaking havoc and chaos outside! Do help the other
innocent villagers!” Upon hearing this, Wen-Zhu ran out of the temple, and saw Guan Yu’s words to be
true. Wen-Kai was releasing lions, dragons, tigers, and other kinds of ferocious animals. To protect the
villagers, Wen-Zhu drew large cages and the animals were caught. The villagers’ cheered for him, but it
was cut short by an ear-splitting “BOOM!” The villagers’ smiling faces quickly turned terrified as they saw
the long, snake-like water flowing towards them. Wen-Kai had made a new branch of the Pearl River
Delta, and the water flow was advancing towards them! Then, Wen-Kai cackled, and taunted Wen-Zhu to
“do something” for the villagers. Wen-Zhu, channelling Guan Yu’s power and using his anger, roared at
Wen Kai and his other family members. Then, Wen- Zhu frantically scribbled and finally finished his
drawing of a dam stopping the water. Everyone else cheered, for Wen-Zhu had made a miracle. So,
everyone elected Wen-Zhu as the village chief, and with the gods and every villager by his side, he
banished his family from the village. Soon, the village was recognized by others, and Wen-Zhu was a
successful leader, who brought peace and prosperity to the village near the Pearl River Delta.
