y name is Janice Keung and I am 12 years old. I live in a house made of wood on a very pretty,
clear and blue sea in Hong Kong .My family has three people and all the people in my family
and I know how to swim in the pool and in the sea. My mum’s name is Julia and my dad’s
name is Tom. They are fishermen. They need to catch fish and sell them to other people so that they can
use the money they earn to buy food and for my studying. I do not have any brothers or sisters but I don’t
feel alone and bored because I always think that brothers or sisters are very noisy. I always lived happily with
my family and friends and I like all my friends, my dad and my mum very much as they are all kind to me.
One day, when I was doing my homework at night in my wooden home, my dad came back and
said to me sadly that he couldn’t catch any fish for two days, but the other fishermen and fisherwomen
didn’t know this problem. He then asked my mum, Julia and I how could we find more fish in the sea but
my mum Julia said to us that she didn’t know how to save it. Suddenly, I thought of something that could
save our beautiful, pretty and blue sea and I said to them quietly but happily and joyfully, “I know how we
can make our sea have fishes again! Dad, you can do this and mum you can do this…… ” I spent the whole
night telling them my plan.
After my dad and my mum heard my solution, they smiled at each other and they said to me,
“Janice, you are very smart and clever! You have already done a very great job to all the people that live on
this sea!” Although I was happy that time, I continued trying to finish my very difficult homework as I
didn’t know if this solution would really save the beautiful, clear and blue ocean we lived on.
The next day morning, my dad said to all the fishermen and fisherwomen, “The sea has no fishes
for three days! We have a solution. Please take out your living fish.” My dad said loudly to all fishermen and
fisherwomen. All fishermen took their fishes out and my mum said to them, “Please throw these fishes into
the sea and let them to have more baby fish so that our sea will have more fishes.” When I came home from
school that day, I was joyful after my dad and my mum told me that we could solve the problem. Also, we
can eat yummy fish and my dad and my mum can earn money again! That day, many fishermen and
fisherwomen went to my house and thanked my family as we helped them and the sea we live on.
After this problem has been solved by us, we thought that our sea would be good again but not! A new
problem was coming to us!
One day when I went back home from school, two special people were behind me. They were my best
friends, Kelly and Katherine. I called them to come to my house and play with me as they never came to my
home before and we all finished the homework we needed to do today in our school.
We were playing a card game called Magic Cards when all of a sudden, we heard some strange sounds. I
told them that I needed to go out for a while, and not to touch anything in my home while I went outside.
I dove into the ocean and swam with worry. After a few minutes, I heard that strange sound again so I
swam to the place that the sound came from. This time, my friends Kelly and Katherine were playing Magic
Cards and waiting for me.
An hour ago, Katherine shouted,” Wow! Janice is coming!” and then, the two girls were very excited.
After I went back, Kelly asked, “What did you see? Can you tell me?” “Ok……”
When I found that where the sound came from, I was shocked .A huge, colourful octopus was standing
in front of me! It was rainbow colour. I was very afraid because it looked very hungry but it said,” Hello,
my name is Janice.” “What? Your name is the same as me! Then we can be friend!” I shouted out with
shock and I was happy as it can talk and its name was the same as mine! Janice said many interesting things
which were happening in the ocean. It told me that the fish were coming back to the ocean thanks to me
and my parents. The octopus was now the protector of the ocean where we lived, and it would protect us in
the future. Before I went back home, I said that if I am free, I would bring my friend to see it.
“Oh! I was very interesting to it! Can you bring me to see it the next time?” Katherine and Kelly said the
same time. “Ok! That’s good that you would not be afraid of it and you were friendly to it as it said that
someone thought it was terrible when they saw him.” I said cheerfully.
After these two things happened, our pretty ocean had many healthy fish again and we tried to make it
more beautiful every day. I also brought other friends to play with the octopus Janice and it thanked me
very much. Now my life is very happy! Do you live in the earth happily?
