A Trip to the Future

aul was a young frog. He lived in a river in the Pearl River Delta. It was a big region and there
were many fields. Farmers were working hard in the fields. Paul liked to talk with his giant good
friend Bob – a big cow every day. “I enjoy travelling. I have travelled to different places like Hong
Kong, Macao, Shenzhen, Zhuhai…, etc.” said Paul. “Water is clear, sky is blue, air is fresh there. I made
friends with white dolphins too!” Bob said, “I am jealous of you! I want to go too but I need to go to
work every day.” Then a fairy bee passed by. She listened to what Paul and Bob were talking about. Then
she asked them, “Do you want to travel to the future of the Pearl River Delta to see how it would be? I can
help you!” Paul shouted, “Oh! I love it!” Bob said, “Me too!”
Fairy bee took them to the front of a big tree hole. They were excited. She used her magic to send
them to the future. “Ah!…Ah!….” They fell into the hole. They saw a rainbow, they followed it and they
were sent to the future of Pearl River Delta. There were tall buildings, big cars and busy streets. They
found themselves in the middle of the road. They were very afraid when they heard the horns of the cars.
They hid themselves behind a rubbish bin on the road. When there were fewer people and cars on the
road, they walked around to find a place to take a rest but could not find any fields or lakes. There were
only a few trees and plants on the roads. People were walking in a hurry. They were busy. Many of them
were talking to a small piece of metal when crossing the roads. Finally, they found a little river near a big
factory. Paul jumped into it at once but he found it was so dark in the water. He could not see anything.
Bob drank the water, he found a lot of rubbish in it. There was bad smell too!. A skinny fish from the
river told them the reason, “The rubbish and the dirty water is from the factories nearby. It is the water
pollution. I have to wear goggles and swimming suit to protect my body.” “The dirty water is dangerous
to us! It is bad for our health.” When they looked up the sky, they could not see any clouds or the sun,
they could only find a grey sky. The air was dusty , they started to cough and sneeze. Tears came out from
their eyes.
Suddenly, a rainbow appeared again, Paul and Bob chased after it. They woke up from their
dream. “We had a dream just now!” “The trip to the future was amazing but the most important thing we
need to do is to keep our living place away from water and air pollution! We don’t want to have dirty water
and dusty air. We need a healthy life!” both Paul and Bob agreed.
