New Tales of the Pearl River Delta

nce upon a time, there were only some people lived in Pearl River Delta. It was because there
was no river near Pearl River Delta. Many people who lived in there didn’t have water to drink.
A little girl who called Amy lived in there and she knew there was a fairy lived in a mountain. She
thought the fairy may help them so she went to the mountain.
When she arrived there, she saw a fairy. Amy was glad. She said, ‘Hello, fairy. I want you to help us!’ The
fairy answered, ‘What’s happened?’ Amy told her what was happened. After that, the fairy said, ‘I can help
you. But you must make more people to live in Pearl River Delta before I help you. Can you do it?’ The
little girl was afraid that they couldn’t do it but she still agreed because she wanted to have water.
Then she came back to the village. She told the people what the fairy said. They couldn’t think any idea to
make more people to live here. Suddenly, a man thought an idea. He suggested that if they built many shops
and factories here, there must have more travelers and businessman to come here. Everyone agreed and
wanted to do now.
However, there was a problem. The villagers didn’t have enough money to build the shops and the
factories. Everyone were sad. They couldn’t think more ideas so they came back home disappointedly.
When the little girl was coming back home, she saw a man’s arm was hurt. She ran to the man and asked
him, ‘May I help you?’ The man said, ‘I am very painful.’ Then, Amy brought the man to her home.
When Amy came back home with the man, Amy’s mum was surprised. She said, ‘What was happened?’
Then Amy told her mum that the man was hurt. Her mum helped the man to bandage his arm up. The
man was very grateful. He wanted to do something to thank for them. He said, ‘Thank you very much.
What things can I do for you?’ Amy said, ‘Erm… if you can give us some money to build shops and
factories, I will thank you a lot.’ She didn’t think the man could do it as he wasn’t rich but the man really
agreed to do! The man explained, ‘I am a rich man. I am going here for travelling and I am hurt. I can help
you and I think here is a good place to build some factories too.’
After that, all villagers were very happy. They said, ‘thank you’ to the rich man. Then they started to build
some factories and shops. After one month, they were finished and there were really more people to come
here and live here. The fairy was satisfied and she said, ‘Well done!’ At last, the fairy helped the village to
make some rivers and every villager was excited and they shouted, ‘Hurray!’ Finally, there are many rivers in
Pearl River Delta and everyone have enough water to drink.
This is the reason why there are many factories and rivers in Pearl River Delta now.
