Two days later I was in the river and shivering. “Ready when you are!” Coach Maya bellowed. I swallowed
and nodded. Simon sat on one of the boats and gave me thumbs up. “3…2…1…GO” I dove in, and I
could feel, the steady heartbeat of the water.
Halfway through, I suddenly felt tired. My stance was drooping and my feet moved slowly, I was about to
tell Coach that I couldn’t do it when suddenly a bunch of pink dolphins appeared. One nudged my falling
feet and another kissed my cheek. I wasn’t meant to give up.
I watched myself stuttering on TV and laughed. Simon, my boyfriend kissed me. “You look silly.” I grunted
“You do, too.” My dad shouted “Dinner’s ready.” I smiled. I felt happy, I had everything.
