ot desert in the world is the same. They are just like human’s fingerprint. They are
unique, irreplaceable and have their own stories.
It all begins at that night, the night when God summons the missionary, asking
him to inform the emperor of the Han Dynasty that an army general has to be sent to
the Khalkha Mongols to meet its emperor. As a result, Chenwu, the General of the Royal Guards,
together with 24 slaves and 20 guards, were appointed to accomplish the mission.
It was the first day of their journey across the Gobi Desert: the endless brown sea beneath
the sky. It has massive amount of jewels shining brightly under the sunlight. It is known as
the “pretty death”, not only because of its impressive sceneries, but also because of its extreme
weather, which caused many deaths.
General Chenwu followed the appointment of the Lord, travelling towards the Mongolian’s
great empire. With a huge group OF horses, they made their way ponderously across the desert.
The heat of the sunlight made the journey looks so though. Even the slaves, who were sent to do
the dirty works and were supposed to have no right and reason to complain, were getting mad
with the extreme weather.
They hoped to reach the nearest city; it would be best if they could make it before midnight.
However, that is not a good idea, not good at all.
The brightness was vanishing; it was the coldness coming after it. As the dawn arose, they
finally saw groups of buildings.
The city was called Devourer. Despite its weird and thrilling name, the city looked glamorous,
covered with gold and jewelries, even looked more sumptuous than theirs.
As they arrived, the indigenous people looked like they had been waiting for them to come to
town. They greeted them enthusiastically and paved a red carpet on the road they were walking.
All of their actions showed that they knew the general and the crews were coming. But who has
told them? Did they send someone watching over us? What is their plan? Different questions were
rising in the general and the crews’ mind. They stared at those people skeptically. But they still
went ahead to the paradise reluctantly as the people kept pushing them towards it.
“This is not going to be good”, mumbled the general.
By the time they entered the paradise the King gently greeted them, ”It’s so nice to see you!
My dear general!”
Without any kind of memories of that person, all the general could do was to smile at the king
and mumbled, “Hello, someone.”
The King offered them great quantities of food, weapons and gold. Also, a special dinner was
provided for the arrivals. The dinner tasted so delicious and rich, and they soon fell asleep after it.
That night, they slept very well, so well, almost too well that they had lost all of their prevention.
Suddenly, the cold wind got into one of the crew, Wanghu’s chest. He could hardly breath, so
he kept coughing until he finally woke up. When he slowly opened his eyes, the only thing he
could recognize from the fuzzy scene was a group of men were carrying their armaments and
food away.
“You thieves!” shouted weakly by Wanghu.
