Fiction: Group 2
An Unforgettable Experience in Pearl River Delta
Ying Wa Primary School, Lau, Ian - 11, Fiction: Group 2
am James, a thirteen-year-old boy living in Hong Kong. My parents had raised me since I was born.
My father was a famous scientist. They always taught me new things and knowledge. That’s why I had a
happy childhood until I was ten three years ago. My dad suddenly disappeared in his laboratory located
in our house’s basement. The police had no idea as the Lab was locked and there was no CCTV in the lab.
Everything happened just in a second!
Since then, my mum always warned me not to enter the lab as it was very dangerous and she didn’t want
me to get hurt. One day, I found a key in the basement. I tried to open the Lab. It opened! It was very dark
and I was a bit afraid. I could feel that my heart was beating very fast. I was shocked when I saw something
very strange! It looked like a “capsule”. Driven by curiosity, I entered and sat on the “capsule”. Inside the
“capsule”, there were some screens. The first screen showed “NOW: 1-2-2315 A.D”. Then the other
showed “DISTINATION: Pearl River Delta 1-2-2015 A.D.”. I pressed the “ENTER” button. All of a
sudden, there were some flash light and a tunnel appeared. It dragged me and the “capsule” in! I was turning
and turning in the tunnel, that made me feel dizzy, but it just lasted for a few seconds. Then, the tunnel
suddenly disappeared and I found myself falling into the water!
“Splash!” I fell into the water and struggled, and I cried, “Help! Help!” However. no one could hear me! I
struggled out of the “capsule” and swam on the shore. When I took a look at the front, I was shocked when
I found that the vehicles were all driven on the track instead of above it. They’re all with wheels? And why
wasn’t there any robots on the roads? That’s impossible! I thought. Then I realized something. I’d just gone
back to the past, the year 2015! If that’s the case, everything could be explained. I fell into the water because
at that time the sea hadn’t been reclaimed. And the cars were on the track and there were no robots, all
because I was in the past! Then I noticed a board with the simplified Chinese words which meant “Hong
Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge Under Construction” on it! Oh! I’m in Pearl River Delta! At first, I felt quite
excited, but then I found that I didn’t have any money but a credit card in my wallet!
I went to a convenience store and bought a cup of oolong. But when I showed the cashier my credit card,
the cashier said, “Kid, don’t play trick on us!” My credit card was useless. So I could only beg her. At last,
she sighed and let me take the food as she thought I was an orphan. But she warned me not to go back to
the store again!
I sat in a corner and started drinking the tea of oolong. I was very afraid and regret. If I didn’t activate that
strange “capsule”, everything would be fine. But I couldn’t change anything as the “capsule” had been
broken down after falling into the water. I had to fix it. But I didn’t even know how it worked! I started to
think of my dad. He should know how to fix it since he was the inventor of that “capsule”. Unfortunately,
he had been disappeared for years!
“James?” suddenly a strange voice asked me. I looked up and I saw an old man standing in front of me. I
couldn’t believe my eyes. He was my Dad! We cried and hugged each other. “Why are you here?” he asked
me. “Well, that’s a long story.” I replied. Then I told him what had happened.
“Naughty boy!” my father said. But he didn’t punish me. I could see that his eyes filled with tears. “The
‘capsule’ was a time machine. Three years ago, I set time to 2005, and it took me right here! Unfortunately,
when I wanted to go back, something was wrong with the machine and it just sent itself back to my lab. I
lacked the materials to build another one and sent me back to the year 2315, So I lived in this place for ten
years until you found me.”
Then my dad pulled the machine on the shore and took it to his “Lab of the Past”. “Is there any other way
to fix the machine?” I asked. “Of course!” A few days later, he fixed it successfully. “It’s time to go back to
the future!” said Dad. He pressed the bottom and this time it worked! We were pulled into the tunnel,
